The Commercial Appeal is reporting that County Mayor Mark Luttrell, and unnamed negotiators are nearing a “deal” to avoid a referendum this year.
The terms of the deal are sketchy at best, but involve a 1 year delay in any referendum and a countywide vote. Currently MCS is only required to hold a vote within the city of Memphis.
So far there’s been no reaction to the reports of the deal from MCS Board members, but City Counilman Shea Flinn did chime in on his twitter account:
I hope to have more on this later tonight or tomorrow morning.
