As we near the end of week 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic, I find myself noticing just how fragile the world is.
Its not what we thought it was. Just two weeks in supply chains are strained. Health systems are having to ration protective equipment. We don’t have enough tests to really know how widespread the disease is. Cities are going on lockdown.
Without some serious action from our leaders, Tennessee will reach a “point of no return” within days, setting in motion a certain overwhelming of the hospital system, according to modeling from Coronavirus Act Now.
I’ll be honest, I never thought I would see this in my lifetime.
I never thought we would see our leaders fail so spectacularly.
I never even really considered it…beyond fleeting, fantastical play.
At this point, I’m thankful for the actions of Mayor Strickland. His emergency declaration may have saved countless lives and kept thousands more from contracting the virus.
Its unfortunate that our Governor hasn’t done the same. His inaction is setting the state up for serious problems and putting hundreds of thousands of lives in danger.
I don’t have much more to say, except that I wish all of you health. I hope you and your family stay safe, and take care of each other, even if from a distance, in this strangest of strange times. We need each other, even if we need to be physically distant from each other.
