Karaoke Mishaps I Have Known

One of my dark secrets is that I am a Karaoke whore. I don’t really know what else to say about it. I just am. So, when a client suggested that the entertainment for their event might be a karaoke night I thought that, with enough booze, it could be pretty fun.

What I didn’t expect was the song selection. To be honest, it’s been haunting me for the past few days. I mean, there was the usual Patsy Cline, and some douchie Creedesque guy and a bunch of pop country, but there was one song that really stuck with me for it’s strangeness. That song is “Behind Closed Doors”, by Charlie Rich.

You may not be familiar with the song, and if you are, you know what I’m talking about. Just so we’re all on the same page, here are the lyrics to the chorus.

And when we get behind closed doors
Then she lets her hair hang down
And she makes me glad that I’m a man
Oh, no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors

I don’t know what that says to you, but to me it screams CREEPY.

Click the link above to read all the lyrics if you want, but I just have one question….WHY WOULD SOMEONE, ANYONE sing that song?

Maybe I’m missing some context, in any case, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Now that I can post again after the “Great Blogger Debacle” expect more silliness in this long suffering, dearth of media coverage they call August.

  1. You’re what, about 35? This came out about the time you were born, so this song was written for 45-year-old married men in 1973, which means they would be about 80 now, so that means…

Oh, wait, I’m not helping, am i? OOPS.
