Just a quick update. Real life has intervened in my ability to update the numbers over the past several days. Based on a cursory analysis of information released this week, tomorrow’s numbers will be telling.
I hope to have a more comprehensive update tomorrow afternoon about the effect of the Election Commission’s efforts to correct the problem as well as other information.
So they don’t get buried behind other posts, here are the resources and findings that I revealed Monday.
|Google Earth KML Files:
State Senate Districts
State House Districts
Voter Participation List through 7/20/12
Download Google Earth here.
Watch the video here.
Note: New PVL files may reflect changes to the districts. Districts follow voters, not elections. As the Election Commission makes changes, so will the district information on new PVL files. I covered this here.
A very cursory look at the original Participating Voter Lists from 7/16 through 7/21 shows that as many as
37 36 voters had their Congressional Districts changed AFTER they voted.
You can see the results of this first search here.
We’ll keep following these changes as voting continues. I don’t think this is anything nefarious…this is the Election Commission working to correct mistakes.
More later as it develops…
Getting the list of voters who received the incorrect ballots is a long process. I’m not going to go into all the technical stuff. If you want to know, comment, or send me a message from my contact page and we can have a good ole geeky time. Chances are I’ll learn something.
Once you’ve identified who those potential people are, its fairly easy.
Below is a quick video I put together that describes the last step in the process.
Do not try to do this with a full Participating Voter List! You’ll never find enough needles in that haystack.
If you want to check against my data, here’s the Excel Spreadsheet that I made with voters who received the wrong ballot.
Finally, here is the Voter Participation List through 7/20/12 that I used. This is to verify that the voter did indeed receive the incorrect ballot.
Please distribute this information and help people be more informed before they vote. Also, if there’s some super smart developer out there that’s interested in helping make a mobile app to help voters know their districts, or even some kid of web app, that would be awesome.
The main reason I brought this to people’s attention is because I want them to be able to vote in the right district…for people who will actually be representing them.
I’ll be updating here with relevant information regarding my investigation, and ways you can see how I came to my conclusions.
In the mean time, give it a read.
